Manali, because of its location and proximity to high peaks, is probably the best take-off point both in terms of number and complexity of treks as well as trekking infrastructure.
The Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports of the Mountaineering Federation of India, is operating from Solang Nallah. Besides equipment, it offers beginner and advanced courses in mountaineering and permission for expeditions to scale peaks in the region.
The entire region is famous for adventure sports like Heli-skiing (at Hanuman Tibba, Rohtang Pass, Deo Tibba and Chanderkhani Pass), Skiing (a choice of courses available with the Directorate of Mountaineering and allied sports), Para-Gliding (at Solang), Angling, Mountain Biking, Mountaineering and Rock climbing (Beas Kund region and the lower reaches of Hanuman Tibba and Deo Tibba). Sports like white water rafting, on the river Beas, is also very popular. |
