Karnataka emerged in the 6th and 7th centaury AD as Pattadkal [Karnataka].
Situated in Southern part of India, which is know for the fastest growing
state in the country, it has already acclaimed its name in Information
technology, Biotech, Garments & Fashion industry. Growing tourism in
this region is the biggest boom of the century.
Karnataka is famous for ancient heritage of Dravidian era, the southern
part of Karnataka occupied by small kingdoms of local rulers, some of them
were exceptionally high in cultural levels.
During the 10th and 11th century a new era took its shape in to stone
building temples from sandstone to potstone and became the immediate
forerunners of the Hoysala temples.
Hoysalas established their small kingdom close to the mountains and plains
to the east by the first great Hoysala king Bittiga [Bittideva], who assume
the name Visnuvardhana from the God for prosperity - Vishnu. In 1116 AD
after defeating the Chola of Talakad and to celebrate the enormous success
the large Vaisnava temple in Belur was built and consecrated in 1117 AD.
Later in a festive mood a second large temple was built, now a Shiva temple
in Halebid. Their kingdom reached its zenith around 1200 AD, and the Belur -
Halebid region became the undisputed center of Hoysala Dynasty. Hoysala
independence found its end 200 years after its formation during the invasion
of The Mughals.
Later these Hindu kingdoms manage to unite in a new spirit, they founded in
1336 AD, the city of Vijaynagar situated in central Karnataka. The
Vijayanagara Empire introduced a new kind of temple architecture,
recognizable by its compound pillars and soft potstone, which was replaced
by hard granite.
Well, thanks to the interest of science and the Karnataka tourism a large
number of historical sites and temples are saved and well kept. The
expressions of glory have survived, and now attract thousands of pilgrims
and tourists every day in this region.
